BYD Atto 3 charging cost

A full charge of the 60.5 kWh pack costs about $10 at the US-average home rate of $0.16/kWh. Spread over its 261-mile WLTP range that's roughly 3.7¢ per mile of energy — a best case, since WLTP is optimistic and charging losses and DC fast charging both push the real figure higher. BYD Atto 3: what to know

The BYD Atto 3 is a 5-seat suv with an 60.5 kWh Blade LFP battery and a 420 km (261 mi) WLTP range. BYD's first global export hit (sold as the Yuan Plus in China) — a compact SUV that tops EV sales charts in Israel and Thailand.

Because it isn't sold in the US, there is no EPA range rating for it — the closest apples-to-apples number is the ~228-mile EPA-equivalent estimate (its 317-mile CLTC figure scaled down by the roughly 20–30% that the Chinese test cycle runs optimistic). Use that estimate, not the WLTP or CLTC headline, when you compare it against a US-market EV.

It carries no US federal tax credit — that program only applies to cars sold new in the US, and BYD isn't. For the full picture on why these cars stay out of the US and how the tariff math works, see the Chinese-EV hub and the BYD brand page.

Frequently asked questions

Is the BYD Atto 3 sold in the United States?+

No. The BYD Atto 3 is not sold new in the US. A 25% Section 301 tariff stacked on a 100% tariff on Chinese-made EVs makes direct import economically nonviable, and a January 2025 Commerce Department rule restricts Chinese connected-vehicle software. BYD sells the BYD Atto 3 across Europe, Latin America, Southeast Asia, and other export markets instead.

Why does the BYD Atto 3 list two different range numbers?+

Its 420 km (261 mi) figure is WLTP, the European homologation standard, and its 317-mile figure is CLTC, the Chinese standard. Both run more optimistic than the US EPA cycle, so the realistic US-equivalent range is closer to the ~228-mile EPA estimate shown above.

What would it cost to charge the BYD Atto 3 at home?+

Filling the 60.5 kWh pack from empty costs about $10 at the US-average home rate of $0.16/kWh. Over its 261-mile WLTP range that's roughly 3.7¢ per mile of energy — a best case, since real-world consumption and DC fast charging both push it higher.

Can the BYD Atto 3 use US charging stations?+

Not without adaptation. Export BYD Atto 3s use the European CCS2 connector, whereas US DC fast charging uses CCS1 or the Tesla NACS standard. That plug mismatch is one more reason these cars aren't a plug-and-play fit for the US market.
