BYD Seal: what to know

The BYD Seal is a 5-seat sedan with an 82.5 kWh Blade LFP battery and a 570 km (354 mi) WLTP range. BYD's Tesla Model 3 rival, built on the e-Platform 3.0 with an 800 V architecture on the AWD trims.

Because it isn't sold in the US, there is no EPA range rating for it — the closest apples-to-apples number is the ~291-mile EPA-equivalent estimate (its 404-mile CLTC figure scaled down by the roughly 20–30% that the Chinese test cycle runs optimistic). Use that estimate, not the WLTP or CLTC headline, when you compare it against a US-market EV.

Is the BYD Seal sold in the United States?+

No. The BYD Seal is not sold new in the US. A 25% Section 301 tariff stacked on a 100% tariff on Chinese-made EVs makes direct import economically nonviable, and a January 2025 Commerce Department rule restricts Chinese connected-vehicle software. BYD sells the BYD Seal across Europe, Latin America, Southeast Asia, and other export markets instead.

Why does the BYD Seal list two different range numbers?+

Its 570 km (354 mi) figure is WLTP, the European homologation standard, and its 404-mile figure is CLTC, the Chinese standard. Both run more optimistic than the US EPA cycle, so the realistic US-equivalent range is closer to the ~291-mile EPA estimate shown above.

What would it cost to charge the BYD Seal at home?+
